Rockwood-Big River Project
AmerenUE on Feb.8 announced that a route has been selected for the $7.5 million Rockwood-Big River project that will involve building a 138,000-volt transmission line extending 12 miles from Rockwood Substation. That substation is located approximately 1.5 miles east of Pacific, to Big River Substation, near Cedar Hill, Mo., in Jefferson County, Mo. The line will be constructed using predominantly two-pole wood "H-frame" structures ranging in height from 80 to 100 feet.
After a comprehensive review, AmerenUE chose a route of approximately 12 miles made up of 10 miles from the yellow route and one mile each of the red and green routes. After a project kick-off on June 6, 2007, AmerenUE officials conducted two workshops inviting 320 property owners with 186 attending—there the property owners reviewed the green, yellow and red routes. In addition, the company conducted multiple discussions and meetings with a range of interested parties.
The selected route (the blue route) was chosen because it affects the fewest number of landowners, requires no structural relocations and balances the impact on the environment. It is also the shortest of the proposed routes. In siting facilities, AmerenUE is committed to identifying possible routes and selecting a final route that reduces the impact to the environment and the public, while remaining economically viable. Factors considered in siting facilities are land uses, existing infrastructure corridors, wildlife conservation areas, archaeological sites, flood plains, endangered species habitat, structures, property parcels, and the length and cost of the proposed line.
AmerenUE expects to begin construction on the project in the fall of 2009 with a year-end 2010 completion. Check out the fact sheet and FAQs for more details.

Saddle Creek 73 Transmission Line Project
The $6.2 million Saddle Creek 73 project will involve building a transmission line extending 7 miles from Saddle Creek Substation, near Gray Summit, to an existing 34,500-volt subtransmission line on Old County Farm Road, just east of Union. The new line will initially carry 34,500 volts, but it is being built to 138,000-volt standards because it will eventually supply a new, 138,000-volt substation.
